Rachel Carson Council Internship

Overview

Through the Stanback Internship Program housed at the Nicholas School, Brandon was able to spend twelve weeks at the Durham office of the Rachel Carson Council entrenched in environmental justice issues throughout North Carolina. A large portion of the summer involved workshop development. One workshop was developed to teach middle school students about North Carolina's environmental history through a simulation game based on actual events. The second was a workshop developed for seasoned environmental organizers from around the state who wanted to learn more about environmental justice.

Relation to Environmental Justice

This experience was entrenched in environmental justice. It was the very imputed for Brandon changing his entire thematic emphasis to environmental justice. It showed him the interactions of social justice and environmentalism and gave proof that there is hope for a just transition towards a brighter future for everyone and everything on this planet.
